This was the one I did with my wife.  She seemed to have a pretty tough time of it as the tempatures rose.  I was super proud of her for finishing even though she went a little slower then she wanted.  She bonked she got cramps and she still pushed it through and amazingly she is talking about next time already.  My Average HR was 119 and the only time it rose above 127 eas the two times I left her and ran hard to catch up.  But miles are still miles and my legs felt a little tired today.  Good week mileage wise.  Now I only have one race on the horizon.

You should be proud of her. Tell her great job!

Thanks Burt I have told her again and again how proud I am of her. It seems like everyone knows and I have friends come up and talk to her now and she has no idea who they are. First Marathons are a life changing event.

This was a good prep long run. Congrats to your wife for toughing that out. Those hills at the end really hurt especially for first timers.

As far as long runs are concernend I would prefer that it was a week earlier but I don't think it will have much effect on SGM. Running with a first timer really helped me recall my first time more vividly. It was all the more fun that it was my wife. It seems like the hill hurt no matter how fast you are going and after 4 hours feet get real tired. She just can't stop talking about it though and that might be the best part.

Whenever we are out with friends people always ask me about running and I just kind of go on and on. Its nice that the shoe is on the other foot now and she is the one who keeps talking. She really is excited to do another and keeps looking at different races. After running Hobble Creek in under 2 hours this year I think she really expected to run the Marathon in under 4:30 Oh well next time.

Hey Matt and Suzanne,

I had forgotten that you ran Sat. with Suzanne when I saw you at the TH. That is so fun and inspiring to see our wives tough it out. Great Karma for you for sticking it out with her. And congrats to Suzanne for finishing. When my kids ask me how I did I always tell them, "I won. I always win when I finish:)"
