Well this was a big improvement over last year. I registered Thursday night but I had planned on this for awhile. I had just being waiting on my Hamstring since Hobble Creek to see how I would feel. I brought Suzanne and the kids to the race and last night was a late night with a trip to 7 peaks and dinner at Brick Oven before driving back to Draper and getting litltle sleep. Suzanne and my three youngest kids actually drove up so we could do Swiss days together after. I had a lot of friends up there. I felt like I wasn't prime but I expected to have a good race.
This race is loaded with High Schoolers and off the 8 people in fron to 5 were highschoolers plus two 25 years olds and one 26. When the gun sounded all those highschool kids took off. THe first mile was really solid in about 6:03 and it has a little up hill. By the mile I was in 12 place and from that point on only 1 guy passed me who I later caught and I passed 3 more. There was one bigger guy I started chasing but never could catch. I should have latched on to him in hind sight but he was really impressive. He must have been 205 or more and about 6"1.
It took me awhile to get into a grove. maybe it was the uphill or the anxiety with my hamstring. All and all it went well. I feel like I can continue to run about this speed for a lot more distance but I don't feel like I am getting faster. I know what that means and after St. George I will probably switch up my strategy. Post race i had a lot of friends to talk to. We enjoyed the parade and the Scones and every thing Midway had to offer. I know I havn't looged much lately. My hard drive at home crashed and FRB is off limits now at work. I'll try to do better.
FYI
This was my first time wearing the FRB shirt at a race. I didn't get chicked maybe that is a good omen.
